Report on the Achievements of the tasks required to meet our targets for the Operational Plan for 2006
LEARNING
Our girls require learning opportunities which develop complex cognitive skills and understanding with an increasingly global outlook. They must develop skills, knowledge and values to prepare them for success in a complex, rapidly changing and technology rich world. Consequently, our plan this year has seen the Curriculum Deans and Coordinators complete the first stage of the review and development of the curriculum under the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELSA). The more significant changes resulting from VELS development have been
The trial of the Technology in Girls’ School Programme incorporating an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving
The planning of a Year 8 Forum programme to be commenced in 2007
The introduction of the initial stages of the Learning to Learn programme at Year 7
The review of our policy and programmes for gifted girls. Planning of special programmes to cater for the individual needs of highly able girls.
All curriculum areas have commenced monitoring their programmes for the inclusion to interdisciplinary skills, personal, physical and social development, sustainability, and community connections.
At the same time the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Committee has reviewed the teaching of ICT competencies within the curriculum and revised the minimum standards for implementation in 2007.
An annual programme for parent information evenings have been held to keep parents informed of issues relating to their daughters education. In 2007 these evenings focused on the new reporting and information requirements for independent schools.
GROWING
Programmes which develop values, attitudes and personal skills both within the classroom and as part of the co-curriculum provision at Ruyton have been reviewed and developed through
The update and extension of the pastoral care programme to include the Positive Behaviours Programme at Years 7 and 8.
The continued development of the Values Programme in Junior School.
The introduction of an inclusive leadership training programme at Year 6.
The preparation of a unit on the Commonwealth Games to incorporate a unit with 2006 relevance in the girls programme Incorporation of student suggestions within the Health Education curriculum.
The commencement of the monitoring and review of the co-curricular activities, and the balance within the programme and activities for individual girls.
The recommendations from this review should be available by the end of 2006
The rowing programme has been extended to enable parent participation.
CONNECTING
To include within Ruyton’s learning environment increasing access to local, national and global communities we have, during 2006,
Reviewed the guidelines for Community Awareness Programmes in Junior and Senior school, and linked this with greater involvement of students in decision making and organisation of activities.
Prepared a manual outlining guidelines and procedures to support family/school relationships.
Developed links with Chelmsford County High School for Girls and The Cathedra l School for increased exchange of programmes and global learning programmes.
Commenced negotiation with a School in China to extend our current links into the southern Chinese region.
RESOURCING
During 2006, the Directors, staff and parents have worked together to provide the best environment for Ruyton girls to learn and grow.
This we have commenced planning and fundraising for the Aquatic centre. The initial fundraising target for the Aquatic Centre has almost been reached through the generosity of our School community of present and past parents.
At the same time teachers have continued to maintain and develop their professional expertise through involvement in professional learning opportunities.
The Advancement staff have continued to monitor Ruyton’s reputation within the community to ensure that we maintain our reputation for excellence in girls’ education.
